【After considering any of your guru's good qualities that you know—such as ethical discipline, concentration, wisdom, and being learned—】
In the aspect of conceiving the faults [of the teacher], you exercise restraint. In the aspect of the good qualities, you enhance that. That is, to the best of your ability, you think of his good qualities, think of them often. This method was already mentioned earlier. If you can draw your mind to realize the advantages of doing this, when you can think of his good qualities and strong points, then even though there may be minor faults, these faults will not be able to thwart you. It is just like how parents will always see their children as adorable. Perhaps we have not been parents before, but when we look at ourselves, we think we are the best. It is exactly like that. Why? That is how it is, when you feel there is merit to something, some advantages about it, then you will not see the faults in it. Now this is what we are learning here.
