四加行之二——尊长瑜伽

二、尊长瑜伽：通过诵念《兜率众神诵》的偈诵，修上师相应法。

在广海明月0446讲——修行全靠善知识，师父提到《阿含》里阿难尊者与佛陀的一段对话，提醒我们：修行不是一大半要靠这个善知识，而是全部要靠善知识！而广论引用博朵瓦语录云：“总摄一切教授首是不舍离善知识。”更是明确地指出“一切善乐之本源者，厥为善知识。故于最初，依师轨理极为重要。”修行能不能修得上去，完全要靠善知识！

修尊长瑜伽——上师相应法的法本，基本上是《兜率众神诵》。它包括了七支，从供养到回向，也就是含摄了普贤十大愿王。《兜率众神诵》的前行仪轨，就是一般的皈依与大乘的不共皈依，以及扫洒坛场、祈请等等，接着迎请宗大师父子三尊降临到我前方，明现观想境，然后开始念《兜率众神诵》，一个偈诵一个偈诵地修法，这也是七支供养的修法。

在《兜率众神诵》回向之前，还有安住祈请，正是广论提到的三事求加。三事求加后又特别求开智慧——七种智慧，接下诵念《密集嘛》。《密集嘛》在整个上师瑜伽中念诵处很多，所以叫十万密集嘛——它包括整个尊长瑜伽的全部内涵。念完再收摄坛城，到了最后一个偈诵，回向，就结束了。从这里可以看出《兜率众神诵》与修上师瑜伽法的紧密关系。

2. Guru Yoga: Cultivate Affinity with the Guru through recitation of “Ode to the Assembly of Sages in Tusita”

In Global Lamrim discourse 0446 -- “Right Cultivation depends entirely on following the Excellent Teacher”, Master Jih Chang mentioned that there is an account of a conversation between Venerable Ananda and Lord Buddha in the Buddhist Canon Āgama. This is to remind us that in our cultivation, we have to rely not partially, but entirely on the Excellent Teacher! The Lamrim also quoted from Master Bodowa’s Method of Explaining, which stated, “Of all the personal instructions, ‘Do not give up the excellent teacher’ is the prime instruction.” (LR V1 P70). The Lamrim clearly pointed out that “the excellent teacher is the source of all temporary happiness and certain goodness. Therefore, the way you initially rely on the teacher is important.” Whether we are able to progress in our cultivation depends entirely on relying on Excellent Teachers!

The text on the practice of Guru Yoga is basically the recitation of “Ode to the Assembly of Sages in Tusita”. As it includes the 7 branches of worship, from offerings to dedication, it encompasses the 10 Great Vows in the Prayers of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. The preparatory ritual for “Ode to the Assembly of Sages in Tusita” includes the practice of taking refuge and developing the Mahayana spirit of enlightenment, as well as cleaning & decorating the mandala, supplication etc. This is then followed by inviting Master Tsong-kha-pa and his 2 chief disciples to descend to the space in front of the practitioner, and visualising very clearly the merit field of gurus, buddhas and other sages. The recitation and cultivation of the Ode then begins one verse after another. This is also the cultivation of the 7 branches of worship.

Before Dedication, there will also be the prayer known as “Supplication for the Three Great Purposes”, mentioned in the Lamrim (V1 P99, note 162). After Supplication for the Three Great Purposes, there will be a special prayer to seek the 7 types of Wisdom, followed by recitation of Migtzema. Migtzema, also called 100 000 Migtzema, is recited at many different junctures in the entire Guru Yoga practice. Once the recitation is done, the mandala shrine will then be slowly closed and exited until the last verse, dedication, is completed. Thus, from this session, we can learn to appreciate the close relationship between “Ode to the Assembly of Sages in Tusita” and the practice of Guru Yoga.
