BW MONASTERY YOUNG ADULT CONFERENCE

Over the next few weeks, we will be using our Musings Collective page to share more details of our first ever BWM Young Adults Conference happening on 12 Nov 2017. So do check-in regularly for updates!

Our Conference will consist of three panel discussions, each exploring common workplace issues faced by Young Adults. You will get to hear from and interact with a group of experienced Buddhist working professionals, to learn how they manage and cope in such difficult situations.

The second panel discussion will explore the theme of:

Going Up Without Bringing Others Down

Climbing the corporate ladder is an uphill task, often involving great amounts of hard-work in exchange for good appraisal and recognition. In addition, there’s increased competition from talented individuals who are all striving to out-do their counterparts to advance in their careers. As the pie is limited, there are those who are bound to lose out in this dog-eat-dog phenomenon, while others thrive. This mentality however, is often tied to self-centredness and the magnification of one’s ego and pride in his process of self-promotion.

Is being too ambitious at work fueling our afflictions? How can we as Buddhists stay humble and grounded without being overlooked for promotions? What would be an appropriate mindset to adopt when striving to advance in our careers?

We believe that we can perform at our best or even exceed self and the organisation's expectation of us while embracing our Buddhist values. Being ambitious does not make us less of a Buddhist or any less compassionate.
