【THE THREE TYPES OF PERSONS】- the one and only vehicle to achieve ultimate Buddhahood
So this paragraph specifically tells us although it is divided into three capacities, what is it trying to guide you? That is, what is your purpose? It points out to us the purpose/goal is the one and only vehicle for us to achieve ultimate Buddhahood. For those of us who have already encountered and understood Buddha Dharma, everyone should recognize that at the ultimate state, when we have trained until the end, our goal is this. Thus, what is the benefit of pointing it out in the very beginning of the Lamrim teachings? It is to properly set your purpose of life. Then, you would not branch off due to other diversions and you would not take a crooked path or wrong path. Furthermore, you will naturally think - to achieve this ultimate path, what is the most accurate and perfect approach? By the time you probe into it, pointless trips can be avoided. For instance, you are told of this [other method] and you think, “right, this makes logical sense”. However, since your goal is to attain ultimate perfection, when you look at this and find that it can’t reach your ultimate goal, you will say this is not good. Then, in comparison to [the method taught in the Lamrim text,] of course, you won’t want to take chances to rush into trying [other methods]. By the time you turn around after getting bruised all-over by banging around, who knows how many eons would have passed. All these situations can be avoided.

所以这一段特别地告诉我们，尽管分三士道，但是它为什么，什么东西是要引导你的？就是，你的目的何在？就告诉我们：目的是究竟圆满一乘佛法。在我们已经接触佛法，了解佛法的人，大家了解，最究竟的时候，做到最后就是这个，目的就是这个。所以它一开头的时候，就把这个指出来了以后，有个什么好处呢？我的目标摆正了。目标摆正了以后，你就不会为那个旁边的枝枝叉叉影响，不会走歪路子，不会走曲路。进一步，你自然会想，要想达到这个究竟圆满的路，以什么方式最正确的、最圆满的？那个时候你摸上去，才不会走冤枉路。比如说，告诉你这个，你想，对呀！这个是道理，但是呢既然你目的是究竟圆满，一看，不究竟，说这个不好；然后呢你比这个，自然而然你不会说先跑得去闯闯看、试试看。等到了你试了，撞得头青眼肿，转回来的时候，也不知道多少劫转过去了，这种情况，都可以免除掉。
