【LISTENING】 – A medley of sorrow and joy

That is a sign of abiding by the teaching Before Venerable Master Hong-yi departed, he wrote a short verse named, A medley of sorrow and joy. It is so true. When you are in resonance with the teaching, you will have that kind of feeling. You can’t really tell whether it is sorrow or joy! It is actually both – sorrow for encountering the teaching so late, and joy from this day onward. Actually, it is a mixed feeling, but it really is a sign of concordance. So in other words, with regard to this situation, when we listen to the teaching, this is the proper mentality. This is really important!

听闻 : 悲欣交集

佛法相应的必然情况。弘一大师走的时候，写了一个偈子，叫"悲欣交集"！一点都没错，你到那个时候法相应的时候，就会有这种心情，你也说不上来，你到底是悲啊、是喜啊！说起来是又悲又喜，悲——闻法之太晚，喜——从今天开始。实际上那个心情很混杂的，但是的的确确跟它相应。那个时候这种情况应该说；反过来我们应该听法，就应该有这种心情，这个是很重要的！
