【How to practice diligently without sleeping at the wrong time and how to act properly at the time of sleep】
What is the key issue here? It is that you do not want to just let it go. This is the first one. Secondly, when you sleep, there will be a correct method as well. So you will definitely not waste it away. Like what it was mentioned before, if you do not have the skill-in-means, such as learning meditation without normal sleeping, needless to say, your night time has been wasted, your day time has also been completely wasted! When we ask you to sleep and you do not sleep, you have wasted it and you would not be in a state of mindfulness. In the day time, those things that you are supposed to do, you cannot lift the spirit you cannot do things. So it is that wrong! Thus, that is not having skill-in-means. If you just learn from the surface, the more you learn, the more incorrect it is. This is the principle! Now it tells us we need to actually sleep.
【When you go to sleep, first come out from the meditation room, wash your feet, and then enter your own room. Then, lying on your right side, place you left leg upon the right, and sleep like a lion. 】
First, when you sleep, you need to wash first your feet. But here is different from India. In India, they used to go barefooted. So of course one must wash the feet before sleep. Here we have shoes. Of course, during summer you need to shower, but in the winter, if you do not (shower)… it is alright not to. Then, you can sleep, when you sleep you want to sleep like this. This we all know, it is known as the auspicious sleep posture.
