第四,【四如何防护,】

那么你怎么去防护法?前面告诉我们从那个六种境界上面去防,那么怎么防法呢?

【其中有二,】

第一个呢,

【守护根者,谓根境合,起六识后,意识便于六可爱境六非爱境,发生贪瞋,应当励力,从彼诸境护令不生。】

这个怎么防法呀?分两部分:第一个就是守护自己的根。因为当你的「根」跟所缘的「境」合的时候,那时候「识」一定生起来。那么这个识生起来了以后,那时候这个意识就会对可爱的境生贪心,不可爱的境生瞋心,就在这个当下,在这个根上面努力去防护。

Number four. 【How to restrain the sensory faculties 】

How do you restrain it? Previously, it tells us to restrain from the six sensory objects. Then how do you do it?

【has two parts and they are as follows: 】

The first one.

【1) Guarding the sensory faculties: [62] After the six consciousness arise based upon their sensory objects and faculties, the mental consciousness produces attachment for the six attractive sensory objects or hostility toward the six unattractive ones. "Guarding the sensory faculties" means protecting your mind against such attachment and hostility, and making a great effort not to produce them. 】

How do you restrain it? It is divided in two parts; the first one is to guard your sensory faculties. Because when your sensory faculties meet with the sensory objects, at that time, the consciousness will certainly arise. When the consciousness arises, the mental consciousness will form an attachment towards the attractive sensory object and hostility will arise towards the unattractive sensory object. At this moment, you must make great efforts to guard the sensory faculties (by protecting your mind against the attachment or hostility) .
