【二何所防护者,】

那么有了防护的工具,防什么呢?什么是你要防的呢?

【谓六种根。】

那就是我们的六根门头,眼、耳、鼻、舌、身、意,这个大家都知道的。

【三从何防护者,】

怎么防法呢?从哪里防起呢?

【谓从可爱及非可爱六种境界。】

就是说这个六根对不同的六个境界,或者叫六尘,对了这个六尘以后,你就产生一种顺、逆不同的反应。对于顺的觉得爱,不顺的非爱,这个境界去防护它。

Once you have the tool, what are you restraining? What do you need to restrain?

【The six sensory faculties 】

They are our six sensory faculties, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind. These we all know.

【What you are restraining them from】

How do you restrain? What do you restrain from?

【the six attractive and six unattractive sensory objects. 】

This means that our six sensory faculties will come upon six sensory objects, or you can call them the six categories of dust particles. Once you come upon these six categories of dust particles, a reaction is generated in which you will feel that the object goes along with you or is contrary to you. With an object which you feel goes along with you, you feel it is attractive. Towards the one which feels contrary to you, [you feel] it is unattractive. These are the sensory objects that you are trying to restrain from.
