【即应具足忆念正知,而正修习,如所决定,令无增减。】

这个大祖师们,每一个人的过来的经验,没有一个例外的。这必定要对于这个每一个地方的行相了解得非常地清楚,而这个之前还要各式各样的准备。到那个时候的话,你那个正念跟正知,这么清楚、这么明白就提得起来,提得起来的,就能够成就!是「应具足忆念正知」,这个是正修习,对了,如法的一点都不错。下面又补两句,「如所决定」,像你前面所决定的,不要增、也不要减。少了固然不行,多了也不要。这是个大学问喔!后面会告诉我们为什么。
那么这个是整个的修学的全部的纲要,全部的纲要。这个地方是个总纲,这是个总纲,真正的细目还没有摸清楚之前,我们还谈不到修。狭义的修谈不到,可是广义的我们正在修,我们整个地认识了解这件事情就是在闻当中,在闻、听闻。然后呢,如何听闻,如何思惟,如何照着去做?

【Actual Session – How to sustain the meditation in general】

【Without exceeding or falling short of what you have determined, sustain your meditation with mindfulness and vigilance. 】

All the great masters, every one of them had derived the same experiences with no exception. You must know the subjective aspects of every part very well. In addition, you must make all kinds of preparation in advance. By then, you will be able to evoke your mindfulness and vigilance very clear and distinctly. Once you give rise to these [i.e. mindfulness and vigilance], then you will achieve! "Sustain your meditation with mindfulness and vigilance", this is the actual meditation practice. Yes, this is in accordance to the teaching and it is absolutely unmistaken. The text also includes this, "what you have determined." As for what you have determined earlier, you do not want to exceed or fall short. Of course it will not work if you fall short, but it is not desirable to exceed either. There is a great deal of knowledge behind this! It will tell us the reason later.

So this is the entire complete summary/essential points of all meditation, the complete summary. This part of the text gives a general outline. This is a general outline. So before we know the real details, we would not be considered as doing actual meditation/practice. We may not be considered as doing meditation from a strict definition perspective. However, from the broad definition perspective, we are practicing right now. The whole process of coming to understand this is the process of studying. We are studying, listening. And then, how should we listen and study, how should we contemplate, and how should we put it into practice?
