【The Meditation Session】Actual session-How to sustain the meditation in general
【If you have made this a habit from the start, the virtuous practice of your whole lifetime will be flawed. 】
For those of us who have at least some understanding of the Teachings, we all know this - how was the situation in this lifetime produced? It was from the causes of our past lives. A certain cause(s) had produced the effect in this lifetime. The fruitional cause(s) from the past lives produced the fruitional effect of this lifetime. The causally concordant causes produced the causally concordant effects of this life time.
In regards to this, I think most of us may not understand it. What do these two mean? Fruitional cause means you have created virtuous or non-virtuous karma which has resulted in you being born as a human, deity, hell being, hungry ghost or animal. Causally concordant effect is the condition that you were in when you carried out the action. That state of mind has now arisen again. If we had not created such karma in our past lives, we would not have become monks in this lifetime. If a few hundred years ago or a few thousand years ago, everyone said it was great to be a monk, and so people became monks.
Nowadays, people in the society would say, "this is superstition, you are muddle-headed [to become a monk]." Yet you have exactly chosen this path. I think we would not have chosen this path without any special reason. Isn't it so! It is pretty obvious. Why did we choose this? There must have been causes in our past lives.
