【The Meditation Session】【Actual session - How to sustain the meditation in general】

【That which is known as "meditation" is the act of sustaining an object of meditation and specific subjective aspects163 by repeatedly focusing your mind upon a virtuous object of meditation.】
(See Note 163 in Lamrim Pg 357: In this context, the object's subjective aspect is the guru's being a buddha and your mind's subjective aspect is your faith of conviction that the guru is a buddha.)

Once, I went with someone to get an X-ray. What was the X-ray for? For the stomach. You know that in order to take the X-ray of the stomach, you have to first ingest something called barium sulfate. If you take the X-ray [on an empty stomach], the rays will go through and show nothing. But after you ingest barium sulfate, the rays cannot go through the stomach, cannot go through it. So there will be a shadow formed from the barium sulfate, which would be close to our stomach walls, correct? So the outline of the barium sulfate shadow will allow you to see how the stomach looks like. On the day when I went there, the doctor was…I stood behind the doctor to watch. The doctor suddenly asked the patient, "What do you normally like to eat?" Like that. Then the patient started to think. After thinking for a while, the doctor stopped asking.

I thought it was strange. Why did the doctor ask him, "What do you normally like to eat?" Then the doctor tapped me and pointed to something. Once I looked at it, eh, then I realized. What did I realize? Earlier on, because the patient was not thinking, so the stomach was not churning much. If the stomach was not churning, you will not be able to see much because it is like it’s dead! So you will not be able to see clearly on the X-ray. So the doctor asked him, "What do you like to eat?" The patient did not necessarily think of anything specifically, but the stomach began to churn. It was churning a lot
