The Third Branch of Worship, Confession of Sins P2

【The Meditation Session】

Preparation (5) - Third branch of offering is confession of sins.

So with "whatever sins I have done", why did we create sins (bad karma)? [It is because we are] "under the influence of attachment, hostility, or ignorance." It is categorsied into three types: attachment, hostility, and ignorance. In summary, it is called ignorance. Or you may call it the affliction of the view or the affliction of the emotions. We can see them readily. Regardless of how you describe it, whether it is 108 afflictions, etc, though they are classified differently, the contents are the same. So because of this, whatever that is generated through the body, speech and mind becomes nonetheless erroneous. "The nature of sin...," this is referring to our own doing. There are three ways to engage in this activity: you can do it yourself, to enjoin someone else to do it, or to rejoice in someone else's having done it.

This part, it says "to enjoin someone else to do it, or to rejoice in someone else's having done it," we normally do not pay attention to this much. But this is something which we would frequently commit, would frequently commit. For instance, I am not in good terms with this person and may have this mentality of gloating [at others' plight]. What is that? This is exactly what is described. You see him, an enemy who is suffering, you would think, "You deserve it! You deserve it! I am so happy. This person, he truly deserves it! He should suffer!" And you think that you got reasons to feel that way! What are you doing? What are you doing?
