【Meditation Session】
Preparation (5) – The first branch is obeisance

【Mental obeisance is expressed by the next verse:
Upon one particle there are buddhas as numerous as the particles of those worlds, and All are seated in the midst of their children.
In this way, all are spheres of reality.
I imagine conquerors filling all of those particles.
Buddhas are seated even upon each of the most minute particles and are equal in number to all of those particles. Each buddha is surrounded by bodhisattva disciples. Mental obeisance develops belief through recollecting the buddhas' good qualities. 】

That is "upon one particle there are buddhas as numerous as the particles of those worlds, and all are seated in the midst of their children. In this way, all are spheres of reality. I imagine conquerors filling all of those particles." This is the concept we should have. Thus with "mental" obeisance, on any one minute particle, there are the lands of the Buddhas as numerous as all the particles, and there are Bodhisattvas and so on as numerous as the particles in the surrounding. Regarding this concept, what should we do? We should develop "belief". In this paragraph, what is important is to develop "belief". What is "belief"? That is for the object which you are focusing on, you are certain of it with no doubt. You are not just doing this to conform to others. Normally our mind is in a state of negligence, which is not a state of "belief." If you have belief, you are certain and have no doubt. So with this, we can apply it right away. When we have this belief, even though I may not be able to see anything in front of me right now, I know this for sure, "I am in a state of ignorance, like a blind man who cannot see. But there is the Buddha's light. This is similar to even though I cannot see the sun, much like a blind man who cannot see the sun, the sun still shines on the blind man!" So in your mind, you have to reach certainty of this thought. When you think of it, though you cannot see the Buddha, the Buddha is in fact clearly sitting in front you, looking at you with his eyes, you will naturally become very respectful and very sincere.
