【修持轨理】

【谓善洒扫所住处所,庄严安布身语意像。】
那个就是净地跟奉圣,我们把佛的坛场弄弄干净,弄得非常干净,然后把佛像安布起来,这是第一个。「身语意像」,「身」像就是现在我们的,或者是彫塑的,或者是画的;「语」就是经典;那么「意」是什么呢?「意」就是在我们自己了。真正说起来,这个身语意像,「意」就是教授,这个善知识的教授,供在这个地方,所以这个意也可以说就是亲近的善知识,才能够把真正的宗要,能够传递到你心上去,第一个。

【The Meditation Session】

【Preparation: Therefore, (1) clean well the place where you are staying, and neatly arrange the representations of the Buddha's body, speech, and mind.】

That is to purify the place and arrange the holy symbols. We clean up the place (the altar) of the Buddha, making it very clean. Then we arrange the Buddha image(on the altar). This is the first one. With the "representations of the Buddha's body, speech, and mind," the "body" is what we have here, either in the form of a statue or a painting. The "speech" is the sutras (or scriptures). So what is the "mind"? The "mind" is us. Truly, among body, speech and mind, the "mind" indicates personal instructions. The personal instructions from the excellent teacher are offered here. Hence this is equivalent of saying that the "mind" indicates how only the excellent teacher whom you rely on, can transmit to your mind the true essence of the teaching. This is the first one.
