【The Meditation Session】
【The six aspects of preparation are the activities of Ser-ling-ba】
Now there are six aspects. Remember the phrase that comes after! Whenever this is indicated, it shows that our instructions here come from a perfect lineage. We are absolutely not being reckless here. At the same time, after we hear this, we should know that when you hear some people tell you this and others tell you that, you should examine where the lineage of his instructions come from. So back in the times when I learned the teachings, when they were teaching common knowledge [of Buddhism], it [the lineage] was not given. But when Buddhism was being taught in a formal manner, the teacher would always disclose where the lineage of the instruction came from. It would be explained very clearly, such as whom my teacher was, and who was the teacher of the teacher, and then continuing upward until say Je Atisha. Beyond that, since everyone knows where it came from, there is no need to mention further. Do not belittle that one phrase! Thus, when we truly want to learn later, if you just want to understand a little common knowledge, then it is fine, it is just a casual discussion. But if it is your genuine wish to advance [in the teachings], this is very important.
