【设若亲近不善知识及罪恶友，亦令诸德渐次损减，一切罪恶渐次增长，能生一切非所爱乐，故一切种悉当远离。】
前面是不亲近善知识的过患，这个里边就特别告诉我们，亲近恶友、恶知识的可怕的地方，这是一件事情的两个面。在正式说这些道理之前，我们要了解一个事实——有情哪，他就是有这样特别的东西叫「情」，情这个东西不是你一个人单独生起来的，情这个东西就是人与人之间共同增长的，所以你绝不可能离开人家而独居，不可能的。但是实际上有没有？六道当中有的!阿鼻地狱的众生，他一个人，只有他一个人；还有呢？生到天上的无色界当中众生，他是一个人。所以这两种人都是不能修行的人。

【The faults of not relying on the teacher】

【Moreover, if you rely on nonvirtuous teachers and bad friends, your good qualities will slowly diminish and all of your faults will increase. Then everything that is unwanted will develop. Therefore, always avoid them. 】

The section before explains the faults of not relying on an excellent teacher. This section specifically tells us the horrid situation from relying on nonvirtuous friends, nonvirtuous teachers. This matter has two sides to it. Before we actually explain this, we should know a fact – sentient beings have this something special called “sentient”. “Sentient” does not arise from you alone. Sentient is something that is developed together between people. So you absolutely cannot leave the others and live a solitary life. This is not possible. However are there beings like that? There are those who exist in that way in the six realms! For the living beings in the Unrelenting Hell, one lives by himself, all by himself. What else? Also for the beings in the formless realm in the heaven, each is by himself. So for these two kinds of beings, they cannot practice the teachings.
