The significance of repentance lies in creating the value of life. Repentance is not a passive perception.

The distinctive quality of practitioners is harmonizing inwardly. Regardless of favorable or unfavorable situations, praises or reproaches, these are external circumstances which are like continually pouring rain. We do not have the means to completely resolve or eradicate external circumstances. To truly do it with perfection is by reconciling heart and mind; all is done through harmonizing inwardly.

Be cautious with the person who praises you; you may lose yourself in flattery.
Be cautious with the person who maligns you; hatred may set in within you.
When praised, think of the merits of teachers, the Three Jewels and sentient beings.
When reproached, think of humility and compassion!

Is learning virtuous teachings good? Is learning non-virtuous teachings evil? It depends on the intention behind the learning. For instance, if I sit here and lecture on how human ought to conduct with integrity, is that virtuous? If it is for reputation and profit, or to showcase one's talents, these are selfish and non-virtuous. The karma created by such actions or intentions will be non-virtuous. Hence, observing one's own behaviour and the intention within is important.

忏悔的意义在于创造生命的价值，而不是一种消极的想法。

所谓修行人的本色就是——向内调伏。无论遇到顺境还是逆境，别人对你的是赞叹还是批评责骂，这些是外境，我们没有能力摆平外境。只有调伏自己的心，一切皆调伏。

要小心称赞您的人，您可能在会这样的甜言语中迷失自己。
要小心毁骂您的人，您可能会在这样的言语中生起恶心。
有人称赞您时，要想到师长三宝众生的功德。
有人骂您时，要想到谦虚与慈悲！

学习善法就是善吗？学习恶法就是恶吗？——要看背后的动机是什么。例如，我坐在这里宣讲做人道理，是善的吗？若是为了要名要利，要表现自己的才能，这种自私自利的不良的，所造的业也就不善的了。所以，要观察到自己的现行、内心的动机很重要。
