四加行之四——净除罪障

四、净除罪障——通过修习显密各有的忏罪法门净除罪障

师父在新版《广论》里对“今勤瑜伽多寡闻,广闻不善于修要”有一段解释:

我们通常容易犯的这个毛病,才学得一点皮毛,那自己以为:啊!行了。所以真正要想学这个的话,藏地的祖师们也好、印度的祖师们也好、汉地的祖师们也好,没有一个例外,告诉我们:最重要的浓缩起来两句话──净罪、集资。就是我们的障碍,这个如果没有除,不可能学得进去﹔资粮不够,不可能学得进去!(参见广海明月0121——学进去的关键在净罪集资)

障碍没除不可能学得进去!那么,有什么净障的法门?在广论深信业果的法类中,四力忏悔的初力——破坏现行力,就举出了两种悔除的方便:《胜金光明忏》及《三十五佛忏》,这两种是显教的忏罪法;至于密教,则有《金刚萨埵忏罪法》。

大家应该对《三十五佛忏》不陌生吧!《三十五佛忏》又名《三聚经》,因为它宣说了忏罪聚、回向善聚,还有随喜聚三者,所以叫《三聚经》;其实,它也是具足七支的,有关这部分的解释,大家可以去参阅《吾愿无悔》176页。感恩老师在2013年2月起把此殊胜的教授介绍给我们,僧团又将这些精辟的开示集结成,弟子们可依之而行,建立修行的信心。

4. Removing and purifying obstacles – through practicing various repentance practices in Buddhism to remove and purify obstacles 

Master has the following explanation in the new version of his Lamrim commentary on the phrase “nowadays those making effort at yoga have studied few [of the classic texts], while those who have studied much are not skilled in the key points of practice”:

Our usual flaw is that with a smattering of knowledge, we assume, “Well! That is good enough.” Hence, if we want to learn Buddha Dharma sincerely, we must recognize that none of the great masters of the past, whether they were Tibetan, Indian, or Chinese, made an exception. The gist of their manifestations can be summarized with the two terms - purifying negative deeds and accumulating merits. That is, if our obstacles are not removed, it is impossible for us to delve into Buddha Dharma; without sufficient merits, we are not able to keep making headway on the path!

It is impossible to learn more without removing obstacles! What are the practices then, to remove obstacles? In the Lamrim on the practices relating to Karma, under the practice of the four powers of purification, the first power – the power of regret, states two practices of repentance: “Sutra of Golden Light Repentance” and “35 Buddhas Repentance”, both of which are repentance practices in Exoteric Buddhism; while under Tantric Buddhism, there is the “Vajrasattva Mahāsattva Repentance”.  

Everyone should be most familiar with the “35 Buddhas Repentance”! “35 Buddhas Repentance” is also known as the “Sutra of the Three Heaps”, as the three heaps are factors that reinforce confession – repentance heap, dedication heap and rejoice heap. In fact, they are also of the seven branches, for more detailed explanation on this, please refer to page 176 of Teacher’s 《吾愿无悔》Discourse.

We are most grateful to our Teacher for bestowing us with this most excellent teaching in February 2013, and to the Sangha for their painstaking efforts in compiling Teacher’s Teachings, so that we as disciples, can learn and follow through, build faith and strengthen belief as we practice.
