【依师 Relying on the Teacher 】对得起你自己吗?Are you being fair to yourself?

【Relying on the Teacher 】– Are you being fair to yourself?
We have to understand that, from beginningless time, we are have been in the midst of contaminated emotion. We, on the whole, are endowed with virtuous roots, (to be) willing to forsake worldly enjoyment, go into Buddhism [practice]. (We) should at least, in our minds, recognise: what am I seeking here? Think about it, is this right? If (you) forsake the worldly things, and yet come here, and still expect good food, warm clothing, then why are you here? Thus, I am always grateful for my teacher back then. My teacher usually would not yell, but sometimes he would! However, he would often bring up, and say, “So and so! You come here like this (with this attitude), are you being fair to yourself? Is this the purpose of you coming here?” With just these two statements, [he] often would remind me, and, up to now, I am still immensely benefited by it. This is why I have to specifically explain it here.
