【先应思惟依止胜利速成佛等，及不亲近所有过患，谓能引发现法后世诸大苦等。】
那么这个是前面拉的力量，容或够了，但是后面还要一样——推的力量。有的时候我们会向后面退，他就告诉你，如果你不亲近善知识有些什么害处，说这个害处能够引发现在的、后在的大苦。喔哟！你一想到这个，你就不敢不去亲近了。所以后面有推的力量，前面有拉的力量，哪有不成功的? 决定可以成功！同样的道理，佛法上面虽然没有这种感受，但是我们心里这个能力是千真万确！譬如说这个地方一杯毒药叫你吃进去要死的，当然我们不要去吃；或者说这个毒药的话，风吹的话，马上吹过来让你中毒的，你赶快逃都来不及。一定是这样对不对？叫你来，「嘿，不可以！」这是后面推的力量。当你想到亲近这个恶知识，对你有这么大的害处的话，你一碰见他躲得远远的。这样，这个就很容易了。

【Actual Session – ii) How to sustain the mediation specifically】
【First reflect on the benefits of relying on the teacher, such as quickly attaining buddhahood, and the drawbacks of not relying on the teacher, such as giving rise to suffering in this and future lives. 】
This is a force that will pull you forward. That may already be sufficient [for you]. But there needs to be one other thing, a force to push you from the back. Sometimes we may fall backwards. This is why he tells you what the faults are for not relying on an excellent teacher. These faults give rise to great sufferings in this and future lives. Whenever you think of this, you will be afraid of not relying on the excellent teacher. So there is a pushing force from behind you and a pulling force in front of you. So how can you not succeed. You will certainly succeed. By the same principle, even though you have not developed such feeling for Buddhism, but this kind of mental ability is absolutely real. For instance, if there is a cup of poison here that could cause death after ingestion, of course we will not ingest it. Or if we say there is this poison here, when the wind blows, it can carry the toxin and poison you. Then you will feel as though you cannot run away from it fast enough. That must be the case, right? If we ask you to come here [to where the poison is], [you would say], "I cannot oblige!” This is a pushing force from the back. When you think of how relying on the bad teachers will bring you great harm, whenever you see him you will hide from him from far away. Then this becomes very easy to do.
