- With reference to the book “Explanation of the Confession to the 35 Buddhas Practice”, page 216, from L10 onward:
When you first came across the “Purification of Karma” during your Lamrim lesson, I wonder if you have felt tearful or did not feel anything at all? Having understood virtuous and non-virtuous karma and their effects, you would think that you have not committed any serious non-virtuous karma in this lifetime. However, what about previous lifetimes? Besides, there is also mainly this hostility feeling towards others, for instance, habitual hostility in particular, that arises easily. This kind of person would be very fearful because, any hostility directed towards a bodhisattva would mean staying in the hell realm for countless eons! If such karma has already been committed in this lifetime, how does one possibly confess in such situation? There would only be hopelessness. Therefore, after understanding the purification of karma, you realize that: “Oh, so this non-virtuous karma could actually be purified through the practice of confession!” In that case, how should this be done, since the complete way of purification through the four powers could be applied in the practice of confession? By then, many would think: What exactly is the complete way of purification through the four powers? How should the complete way of purification through the four powers be applied, since this could eliminate non-virtuous karma?
Thus, the method on how to eliminate non-virtuous karma through the practice of confession would become a pursuit in life. When you fail to pursue it, you would feel helpless and perplexed. Whilst some may recite the “100 Syllable Mantra of Vajrasattva”, doing prostrations, or engage in various practices of confession, they would have this thought: “Is that all I have to do to purify my karma? How would the way of purification through the four powers be perfected?” Thus, when I saw the explanations of the “Confession to the Thirty-five Buddhas’ Practice” authored by the Great Master Fo Zhi, which was meant to benefit those who even have a glimpse of it, I was truly ecstatic! I felt that this ought to be shared with everyone, so as to fully understand and experience the complete way of purification through the four powers together.

在学习《广论》的时候,第一次看到“业净之理”的时候,不知道你们会不会流下热泪?还是没感觉?因为你会看到业果,考虑到善恶业这件事,你会想一想,这一辈子自己好像没做多大的恶业,但是往昔劫呢?还有主要是对人的瞋心,比如瞋习气为主的,动不动就瞋心,这种人就会很害怕,因为万一瞋恚到一个菩萨,就尔许劫都住地狱里面!那么这一生已经造了地狱的业,在这样的状态下要怎么样进行忏悔?就会绝望。然后看到业净之理的时候发现:“哦,原来这个恶业是可以忏净的!”那么怎样忏净呢?看到说四力圆具的办法是可以忏净的。那个时候很多人就会想:到底什么是四力圆具的办法?我怎样忏悔才能四力圆具?因为可以把恶业忏悔掉。
所以如何把恶业忏悔掉这件事,会变成生命的一个追求;当你求不到的时候,会觉得彷徨和迷惘。一些人在念〈百字明〉、磕头,或者为律仪很多方面在忏悔的时候,大家都有个感觉:“我这样忏悔就可以了吗?我业能清净吗?到底四力圆具的忏悔是怎样才能够四力圆具的?” 所以当看到佛智大师写的这篇《三十五佛堕忏.见者得益》这个释的时候,我真是欣喜若狂!我觉得这样可以给大家分享,我们一起去体会什么叫四力圆具的忏悔法。
