Great, let’s continue to listen to one more section of Master’s recording.

[Master Jih-Chang’s commentary book 1, tape 2A on page Prologue 7]

Thus, to see the true reality is not an easy task, let alone to become omniscient. For instance, a Hinayana arhat can also see part of true reality but lacks the capacity to [see in its] entirety. This is a simple way to put it. [Buddha will teach us] everything we should know. [He] will not leave out any of it. The quality and quantity of his knowledge constitute his omniscience. Due to this omniscient capacity, he is able to achieve the ultimate solution. Thus, he is capable of self-fulfillment as well as fulfilling all sentient beings’ [aspirations]. This is mental karma. [01’00”]

In the previous paragraph, Master said, “[Buddha] sees precisely all objects of knowledge”, and Master followed by saying, “It is as simple as that!” In this paragraph, Master mentioned, “Thus, to see the true reality is not an easy task, let alone to become omniscient.” First, Master said, “It is as simple as that!” And here, Master said, it “is not an easy task!” What is not easy? It refers to the process of arriving at this state of seeing the true nature of reality, the achievement of Buddhahood! However, once we obtain the ultimate enlightenment, the state of Buddhahood, we will thoroughly understand all the true nature of reality at any immediate moment; so it becomes very easy! [01’42”]

So Master said, [as to the concept] “everything we should know,” known as all object of knowledge when the mind is interfacing with the arising object, Buddha “will not leave out any of it. The quality and quantity of his knowledge constitute his omniscience. Due to this omniscient capacity, he is able to achieve the ultimate solution.” In our lives, there are many issues left unresolved. Why is that so? This is because, for some of them we can’t find the solutions, for some, we may not have identified the problems, and for others, we are still unable to solve them despite knowing the problem and their solutions. Let’s recollect on the amount of unresolved issues we have accumulated from young, which we could only leave them hanging there. Buddha, however, is able to completely resolve every single problem. Why? Because he is capable of comprehending all objects of knowledge in its entirety, fully understanding all aspects in the entire scope. “Thus, he is capable of self-fulfillment as well as fulfilling all sentient beings’ [aspirations].” [02’42”]

Actually, if we make serious contemplation of the good qualities of Buddha’s mind, we can only describe it as unimaginable! Putting aside the consideration of understanding the minds of all living beings, are we able to know the thoughts of the person who has lived together with you for many years? Can you be certain there is no misunderstanding? Do you truly know and understand all his/her kind intentions and forbearance? We are probably more aware of the shortcomings of others, due to our tendency to think in a negative orientation. We have paid little attention to discover the kindness and virtues of others. [03’24”]

So, while contemplating Buddha’s good qualities and then reflect on ourselves, [think] how does the motivation to strive upwards happen in our lives? To think there is a person who has accomplished this spiritual training, isn’t this worthy of our veneration? It is precisely because of the existence of such illumination [from the Buddha’s mind], that even though being able to only understand some concepts in theory, we are able to rely on his illumination to reflect on the state of our life and discover the great space and potential there is for improvement. Once we realize this potential for improvement, we will cease to complain, lament, sigh, and even putting blame onto others. Let’s start to think:  Which are the true reality that I do not know? What are the agonies suffered by others that I am unaware of? What are the things have happened as a result of my mistakes? [04’12”]

We should reflect on ourselves, open our heart to embrace the learning, and explore life. In order to continuously steer further away from sorrow, affliction and bondage, we need to enhance our wisdom and accumulate vast amount of merits. As such, we want to make veneration to all Buddhas. [04’32”]
