Admiralty's Tree Planting Day
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.” -- Chinese proverb.
Tree Planting Day in Singapore was officially started in 1971 in a bid to drive Singapore into a garden city. Every year, during the first week of November, the grassroots constituencies are involved in this activity to carry on this heritage of greening Singapore. Last Saturday, BW Com Care was fortunate to be invited to also take part in Admiralty’s Tree Planting Day.
The activity started at around 9am, led by guest of honour Mr Vikram Nair. Together with key members from the grassroots, Dr Oh and Mr Ong representing BW Monastery put on their yellow boots and proceeded to complete the planting of the trees. Despite the rainy season, we were glad that the weather was dry during planting time.
Post that, both also spent a short time participating in the distribution of dry food and personal hygiene care items and interacting with some of the beneficiaries who came to collect their food items. Whilst the items were donated by the monastery, the Admiralty Care team organized the distribution by putting up a collection station at one of the open space void deck areas. Beneficiaries were provided with notification letters prior to the collection session. They were also required to indicate what they wished to collect out of the various list of items available. Hence, the distribution was quick and efficient.
We thank the Admiralty Care team for their invite to this Annual Tree Planting event and their collaboration with the item’s distribution.
