He said: “To contemplate that you will not remain long in this world”. We are born in this mundane world, but we are not able to live on forever and death is definite. If it’s solely about death, everyone eventually must die, and that’s it. Unfortunately, after death, where do we go? It is not the end after we die, there is still a next phase, either we go up or down and what determines up or down? It is based on the karma that we have created in the current life, just like that.

念死无常 : 思惟此世不能久住
【初中分二,① 思惟此世不能久住-忆念必死,② 思惟后世当生何趣二趣苦乐。】
那么再分,一步一步地分。
【初中分四,① 未修念死所有过患,② 修习胜利,③ 当发何等念死之心,④ 修念死理。】
它这个里边啊,这个科判简单地说一下。是的,我们第一个要求后世,这个才是增上;那么要求后世,用什么方法?这第二个。所以现在第一个就先说,先把那个希求后世的心生起来了以后,然后这个心会推动我们去行该修的方法。那么发生这个心怎么呢?他告诉我们,“思惟此世不能久住”,我们生在这个世间上面,你没办法住下去,永久住下去,而且一定要死。单单死,大家反正总归要死嘛,死就算了嘛!欸,不幸的,死了以后到哪里去啊?哈哈!死了以后这个不是完了,而还有后面。或者向上或者向下,向上、向下根据什么?根据你这一世所造的业,就是这样。
