Lama Tsong-Kha-Pa said it comes from the earlier teaching of “wisdom that comes from meditation.” What is the content of this meditation? “To attend properly to the meaning of what you have studied” is to reflect/meditate. What do you reflect on? What is to be mindful of? The practice that is properly conforming to the teachings is to attend properly to the meaning of what you have studied. So where does this come from? From listening, “what you have studied.” Usually, what comes from our own thinking is not in concordance [to the teaching]. The proper perceptions have to be taught by virtuous teachers, and then you recognize and hold them with certainty, and analyze each arising thought.

此说从其思所成慧,如理作意,所闻诸义,修所成慧,真义现观,乃得起故。

解释前面那个文,说这个修行是修些什么?他说从前面[思所成慧],这个思什么的内容呢?就是[如理作意]叫思。思些什么呢?作意些什么呢?如这个法相应正确的这个方法叫如理作意。那么这个哪来的呢?[所闻诸义],听来的。平常我们自己所想出来的那些东西,都是不相应的,一定要善知识正确告诉你这个道理,你把那个道理正确地把握得住,认识了,然后呢起心动念去观察。
