人家常常说爱虚荣心的人，一下时兴流行的，流行这个，平常我们往往欢喜讥笑，譬如说女性，实际上男女皆然，没有一个例外的。为了加强我们这个概念起见，我们不妨这样说一下。说，一下时兴那个高领子了，啊，那个领子，那个脖子摆在那里真难受；一下那个矮领子，这么一点点；一下那个敞了，一下又是高跟鞋，一下又是那个东西。嗨，你简直是，你不晓得是怎么一回事情！他还觉得很得意。实际上呢他自己被这个东西在牵着鼻子走，你们有没有注意到这件事情？他最舒服的什么？最舒服的就是那件粪扫衣，就是软趴趴地穿在身上，然后坐在家里，躺在沙发上面，最快乐是莫过于此。

【The Varieties of Karma】- Being led by the nose by what’s in trend

People would often say for those who are vain, they would go with what's in vogue or popular. We would normally enjoy sneering at them, for instance, women. But actually, this is the same for both men and women. No one is an exception. In order to strengthen our concept, we might as well talk about this - say all of a sudden, high collar is in fashion, ah, but the collar is so very uncomfortable around the neck. Then, a short collar could all of a sudden be in fashion, but it's so very short. All of a sudden you will have to open it up, and then you need the high heels, and all of a sudden, it's something else. Ha, you simply have no clue what is going on!  And yet she/he still feels quite pleased. 

Actually, she/he has been led by the nose by this thing. Have you- all noticed that? What’s most comfortable? The most comfortable [to a monk] is the garment of cast-off rags, which is soft on the body. And, sitting at home and lying on the sofa; there is nothing happier than this.
