Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment day falls on the 19th day of the 6th lunar month, an important day that is commemorated by devotees in the world. A manifestation of compassion, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva uses limitless compassionate aspirational power to help all beings to be free from suffering and attain happiness. Thus, he is a Bodhisattva who is most venerated.

It is mentioned in the Lotus Sutra - Universal Gate Chapter that, if one is undergoing great suffering, s/he will only need to recite Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva’s name wholeheartedly and the Bodhisattva will help one to relieve suffering immediately upon hearing the plea. The Buddha greatly praised the meritorious excellent qualities of the Bodhisattva, saying:

As the wonderful sound of the Contemplator of the World’s sound (Guanshiyin), is a pure sound, ocean tides sound, superior to other worldly sounds. Therefore, there should be constant mindfulness of him. Thought after thought, do not give rise to doubt, that Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is a pure noble one. When (one is) suffering with afflictions and dying with adversities, the Bodhisattva is able to be that for relying on. (Being) Complete with all meritorious virtues, with compassionate eyes seeing sentient beings, and blessings gathered like the ocean immeasurably, therefore, prostrations should be made to him.

在《法华经·普门品》中说到众生受诸众苦，只要“一心称名，观世音菩萨即时观其音声，皆得解脱”。
