A Meaningful Start to Semester 2: Beginning with Light
The start of a new semester marks a fresh beginning—a time to renew our aspirations and continue growing in wisdom and compassion. As our Zest Universe students from K1 to P6 returned for Semester 2 on 4th and 5th July 2026, they began their learning journey with two meaningful Buddhist practices: Light Offering and 35 Buddha Repentance.
Together with the Parents Class, our K1 to P6 students participated in a Light Offering, creating a beautiful moment where parents and children practised side by side. As each candle was offered, families were reminded of the aspiration to cultivate wisdom, compassion, and kindness, allowing the light of the Dharma to illuminate not only their own lives, but also the lives of those around them. It was a heartwarming sight to see parents and children beginning the new semester together with a shared intention to learn and grow.
Our Primary 3 to Primary 6 students also took part in the practice of 35 Buddha Repentance. Before the session, they learnt the significance of repentance in Buddhism. The students were also guided through the proper way to perform full prostrations, learning that each bow is not merely a physical movement, but an expression of humility, respect, gratitude, and the wish to purify negative actions.
As the children respectfully recited the prayers and performed their prostrations together, they experienced a practice that encourages mindfulness, perseverance, and self-reflection from a young age. We hope these meaningful practices will inspire our students and their families to continue cultivating wholesome qualities both in class and in daily life, carrying the light of wisdom and compassion with them throughout the new semester.
