Why are we unable to see ourselves?

WHY ARE WE UNABLE TO SEE OURSELVES? 

✖ We are often self-centered and often do not compare ourselves with the standards in the dharma that we learnt from our teachers. 

✔ We have to rely on our teachers and the sutras in order for us to have the foundation of the teachings to match ourselves against. The precepts are meant for us to practise and not to restrain others.
