BWM Pet and Animal Plushie Blessing Puja 2026
On 8 August, BW Monastery held its annual Pet Blessing Puja, bringing together around 160 participants and their beloved animal companions for a meaningful afternoon of blessings, Dharma, and community.
The event began with a lively selection of fringe activities and booths, creating a welcoming space for participants and their families before the puja. Visitors explored booths by pet vendors, sought guidance through Guanyin Divination Lot Reading for Pets, made heartfelt aspirations at the Tree of Blessings, and crafted their own DIY pet-themed handphone straps as keepsakes from the day.
This year's event also marked a heartwarming milestone. For the very first time, BW Monastery welcomed animal plushies to receive blessings alongside living pets. This thoughtful addition allowed participants who do not currently have companion animals to take part in the puja, making the event accessible to even more members of the community.
The puja programme included the recitation of verses of repentance, taking refuge in the Triple Gem, the Four Universal Vows, and prayers for the health, longevity, and well-being of all animals. Participants also joined in Medicine Buddha prayers, sincerely dedicating merits and blessings to their pets and all sentient beings.
A highlight of the afternoon was the compassionate Dharma discourse by Senior Venerable Jing Yuan, who shared the profound significance of taking refuge in the Triple Gem. Venerable explained that taking refuge is one of the greatest gifts we can offer the animals in our care, planting the causes and conditions for future rebirth in the happy realms while guiding them on the path towards lasting happiness and liberation. Through this teaching, participants gained a deeper appreciation of how spiritual care is just as important as physical care for the companions we cherish.
The atmosphere throughout the event was filled with warmth, gratitude, and joy, as participants came together to express their love and compassion for all sentient beings. Whether accompanied by a beloved pet or an animal plushie, everyone had the opportunity to make sincere aspirations, cultivate compassion, and dedicate merits for the welfare of all beings.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Senior Venerable Jing Yuan for his compassionate guidance, to all our volunteers and pet vendors for their support, and to every participant who joined us in making this event such a meaningful success.
May the merits of this puja bring peace, health, and auspiciousness to all animals, and may compassion continue to flourish in the hearts of all who attended.
