Singapore’s BW Monastery Youth Choir wins Gold at World Choir Games 2024

Singapore, July 14, 2024 – YAZERS, a vibrant ensemble of young choristers, has clinched a gold in the Pop Ensemble category at the prestigious World Choir Games held in Auckland, New Zealand. Competing against choirs from countries including China, Australia, and New Zealand, YAZERS stood out as Singapore's sole representatives and captured the hearts of audiences and judges with their emotive performances.

Founded in 2013, YAZERS began their journey with the mission to spread joy through music, performing for local communities and charitable organizations. Under the baton of local conductor Albert Tay, the choir has grown in stature and skill over the years. They delivered a stellar performance, presenting a repertoire that included both locally arranged pieces by Singaporeans and specially commissioned works from international artists, featuring songs such as "A Million Dreams," "Awakening," "First Day," and "Hey Jude."

"We are thrilled and honoured to bring home this gold medal to Singapore. This gold medal is a testament to the dedication and hard work of every YAZERS member," said Amelia Wee Hui Yun, Chairman of Yazers. “We are humbled and thankful to have received the enduring support from our community and sponsors.”

The repertoire in Auckland included impactful pieces like "Awakening," lyricist Zhen Ru, arranged by YAZERS member Tan You Yu, which has become an anthem of hope for the group. "Music knows no boundaries and speaks a universal language of love and inspiration," said Lee Choon Geng, the team's advisor, also affectionately referred to as YAZERS godmother. “With our love for music, we aim to warm hearts globally and make the world a better place, one song at a time."

Following their impressive international debut in 2019 at Bali International Choir Festival, where they won four gold medals, YAZERS' success at the World Choir Games not only enhances Singapore's cultural reputation but also underscores their commitment to musical excellence and community engagement.

As they continue their artistic journey, YAZERS remains dedicated to enriching lives and spreading messages of love and hope through their passionate performances.
