Splashes, Spokes, and Strides: A Joyous Recap of the BW Triathlon 2024

April 10th, Hari Raya Puasa is a Public Holiday for all, usually a day for sleeping in. However, 43 eager souls woke up early and traveled from across Singapore to OCBC Arena, all with one mission: to conquer the BW Triathlon 2024.

This annual event, now in its second year, was born from the vision of Patrick and fellow sports enthusiasts from BW Monastery. Their goal? To inspire active living among BW Monastery students and integrate exercise into their daily routines.

The Sprint Triathlon format challenged participants to swim 750m, cycle 20km, and cap it off with a 5km run. But unlike strict professional races, there were no strict cutoff times here; just a shared commitment to completing each leg with hearts brimming with delight.

Before diving into the cooling water of the OCBC Arena indoor pool, participants were treated to a dose of motivation courtesy of Venerable Dao Ci. He was thoughtful enough to record an audio clip, reminding us of the importance of health and vitality in our spiritual journey in learning Buddhism. Thereafter, we were ready to make waves.

As the last ripples subsided, and goggles were swapped for helmets, it was time to mount our trusty steeds and pedal our way through the scenic routes of East Coast Park. A light drizzle threatened to dampen spirits, but not a single frown marred the determined faces of our fellow competitors.

As the sun broke through, the cycling leg concluded, and we laced up for the final 5km run. With determination etched on every face, we dashed towards the finish line.

The day ended in jubilation as all participants crossed the finish line unscathed, with stories of success and no tales of mishaps.

A special shoutout to 70-year-old Hock Heng, whose unwavering spirit embodied the essence of the event. His age-defying performance inspired us all, proving that age is just a number when passion drives you forward.

Post-race refuelling happened at Marine Parade food centre, where laughter and camaraderie filled the air. Kudos echoed for the organisers and volunteers whose dedication made this event possible.

As the sun set on another unforgettable BW Triathlon event, we depart with hearts full of gratitude, muscles weary but spirits buoyant, already counting down the days until we meet again for another exhilarating adventure. Until then, keep swimming, keep pedalling, keep running, and above all, keep smiling!
