“I am thankful to be part of this team. Through participating in the different projects under the community care team, I learnt a lot of new skills, pushing myself out of my comfort zone” _ Ya Chou, lead volunteer with BWM Community Care.
As we wind down for the year 2021, the BWM Community Care main team dedicated one of their usual Sunday online meet-ups to a mini online “High Tea” celebration. The program was kick-started by Ms Jennifer Goh, sharing about the importance of making great aspirations and keeping our original intent in mind as we continue to undertake this journey in reaching out to the needy in the community.
Majority of the core team members who attended the session also took this chance to reflect on their journey so far. Through this, they also learnt more about one another as some of them had never met each other in person before as well as each other’s unique skills and strength. Below are some snippets of their sharings.
Steven - With guidance and continuous reminders from my fellow team members, I managed my emotional reactions better when facing challenges during the organization of the goodie bag distribution. Without their patience, sincere care as well as my dharma practice, I would not have been able to control my anger when facing some of those stressful situations.
Vivien - This team is very nice to work with as most volunteers are highly committed to the mission of caring for the community through caring for self and others.
Ray - I am happy to be part of the com care team and can see the commitment in everyone.
Yong Yi - This whole thing about volunteering for the community, how to go about reaching out to the needy in the neighborhood is something I have not done nor experienced before. I have learnt a lot about myself and new ways of doing things throughout this year.
Jameson - As we progress along, we may face more and more difficulties, but if we keep to our core vision and always try to put the learning of the dharma into practice, we will be able to overcome these challenges and continue to help the beneficiaries appropriately.
As the team enjoyed their afternoon tea and pastries, they also wish that in the year 2022, all volunteers, donors, community grassroots supporters and beneficiaries will continue to stay healthy, safe and another smooth blessed year ahead.
