IRCC Appointment Ceremony
The Inter-racial and Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC) Appointment Ceremony was held on 1 July 2017 at Majid Yusof Ishak. The ceremony was graced by Grassroots Adviser, Mr Vikram Nair, MP for Sembawang GRC (Admiralty). Mr Simon Quek, CEO of BW Monastery (BWM), together with representatives from BWM, were honoured to be part of this special event.
The ceremony began with an opening speech by the Mosque Chairman, followed by Mr Nair addressing the group and highlighting the importance of inter-racial and religious harmony. Appointment certificates for IRCC were presented to all the members, including Ms Jennifer Goh from BWM.
Mosque representatives gave an insightful sharing on the background of the mosque and late Mr Yusof Ishak's efforts in promoting multi-racialism. The sharing also encompassed of the meaning of Islam, significance of Ramadan, the difference between Hari Raya Haji and Hari Raya Puasa, why Muslim has to pray five times a day, how they should pray and the rules and etiquette to be observed in a mosque.
During the Q&A session, Mr Nair identified the commonalities among various religions such as prostration and circumambulation and invited representatives from the respective religious groups to further elaborate the significance of both. The event came to an end with a guided tour around the mosque’s premises conducted by our Muslim friends.
