What Makes Us Uniquely Singaporean?
Our Singaporean Slang? Our Kampung Spirit in our HDBs ?
You can distinctively differentiate a Singaporean when you are travelling . The quirky Singlish that combines English with a hodgepodge of words and phrases from Chinese dialects including Hokkien and Cantonese as well as Malay and Tamil. "Go La Kopi" "Bro, Jia Lat" "Chop-Chop" - That's right! This makes us who we are as Singaporeans - we embrace our differences, diversity, culture, religions and languages.
So how do we preserve our rich diverse culture and heritage and yet maintain peace and harmony in the nation?
Harmonious living is not guaranteed to any country. Hard work must be put in to manage the ethnic differences and divergent expectations. Goodwill and societal peace should not be taken for granted but we can show our appreciation in a fun way!
BW Monastery is honoured to co-organise the ‘Uniquely Singaporean’ Seminar this year with IRCC (Admiralty) and Admiralty C2E. Our friends from the ‘Uniquely Singaporean 2016’ are back to share the joy they have experienced with their friends and family of another another race.
Join us as we discover and explore commonalities, as well as celebrate the diversity that enriches our own life! Don't say we Bo Jio.
