【Cultivation of our mind 】- Efforts that you put in are the merits
Actually, we can find all sorts of [examples], no need to mention Buddhism. With the kind of situations in the mundane world, the kind of situations in the mundane world, you first have this [attitude] in mind - I am certainly going to clench my teeth [to do it]; you need to have this sort of attitude that you want to succeed. That is when you are mentally ready. When difficulties come, you will know very clearly that, "Yes! I do want to progress. To progress, I will have to put in effort, put in effort." What you have done [i.e. the effort that you have put in] will be the merits that you gain. That is the Dharma wealth that you have earned, this is exactly what you want to be busy with! This attitude is just that simple, just like fighting a war. Otherwise, if you don't understand this, before you even fight, ah, you will feel it is toilsome and you turn your back [to the enemies]. When fighting a war and you fight the enemies with your back turned, what will happen? There is only one way [for you], one hundred percent certainty of dying, that is the only one thing!
