Answer: For the deceased to have rebirth in the Pureland or their desired land.
BW Monastery Sangha will chant the Maha Prajna Paramita Sutra and conduct a ceremony to dedicate merits to the deceased. This merits dedication ceremony benefits the deceased as well as gives comfort to family members.
