Happy 55th Birthday, Singapore!

Amidst the backdrop of the red and white Singapore flag, Class 18Z087E gathered virtually to celebrate Singapore’s 55th birthday during class lesson on the Friday evening of 7th August, just two days ahead of Singapore’s National Day.

Despite everyone being miles apart and can only “meet” online through zoom, members of Class 18Z087E continued to religiously and joyously attend Lamrim discussion class each week regardless of their varied commitments. When Class Monitor suggested for everyone to come to class in the country’s national colours - red or white tops to celebrate National Day in advance, everyone happily obliged and some even proposed enthusiastically that the class bring along little Singapore flags to mark the occasion. 

So even though there was no real get-together and also without the usual fanfare of National Day celebrations this year, but with red flags waving and spirits soaring high, classmates of Class 18Z087E still came together as one united people and displayed the true Singapore spirit, stronger than ever. Despite challenging and uncertain times ahead, we remain steadfast and supportive to Singapore. And with this mini celebration as an offering, we give thanks to our country, our government, our fellow citizens and our Teacher for a peaceful, safe and harmonious environment. A stable nation that will tide through difficult times, is especially significant for us as members of BW Monastery, as we continue to strive to learn the excellent teachings, do good for the society, do more for a happier community, and walk the path our Teacher has walked before.

It may be a National Day with a difference this year. Still, nothing can dampen the Singapore spirit in all of us as we persevere to do our part for our nation.
