SG Lamrim

Teacher uses the metaphor of a young child learning to ride a bicycle to illustrate our innermost feelings when we embarked in our journey of practising ethical discipline. Like the child, I became nervous of the wobbly steps I take but I strive on as Teacher promises that one day I would be able to practise ethical discipline naturally. Gratitude to Teacher for understanding my fears in practising ethical discipline, and using different ways to ensure that I am just doing alright.

“Be it in your work or daily living activities, any human relationship issues you face, or any personal complex awkward moods or unexplained emotions, through the learning and discussing of the Lamrim, these will no longer become as disturbing.”

~ Global Lamrim Discourse 0002

I always recall this when I encounter stress, because it reminds me to listen to Master's discourse, the Global Lamrim or read Teacher's 《希望.新生》 and I feel more positive after that. Sometimes, I find "hidden messages" in the discourses to reflect internally, like OMAK or the faults of complaining, so I can learn to apply them.

"There are two possibilities: one, his afflictions have indeed multiplied much more than before; the other is, well, the rays of enlightenment has shone in! From this illuminating rays, he notices there is a lot of dust in the room, the dust of afflictions. This shows his ability to reflect with clarity internally is strongly enhanced, so for him to say at this moment “my afflictions become weightier” is a good thing, as he was able to notice that!” ~ Global Lamrim Discourse 0036

Grateful to the Teacher for this lesson, because from here I have learned that my afflictions are getting weightier because the rays of enlightenment has shone in and I am finally able to see it!

Hence, we must develop the Mahayana motivation when learning the Lamrim. This will generate an inconceivable propelling force not only in our present life, but also future and limitless lives too. Therefore, please do not neglect our ignition of such motivation in every session.” ~ Global Lamrim Discourse 0084

This statement inspires me the greatness of the Mahayana motivation and drives me to lead three Dharma classes. Grateful to Teacher.

“海底有多少生物、有多少植物,我们也没法知道。如果潜入到很深的海底的话,把你带的灯全关掉,你想:现在我享受黑暗时刻吧!可是你带的灯全部关掉之后,会发现海底世界是有灯的,很多鱼会发光!有的鱼会发红光、有的绿光、透明的光、各种颜色,简直是像灯饰大街一样,全部都是灯!然后你就说海底世界好美呀!”~《广海明月》第241讲

Teacher uses the metaphor of being awed by the beauty of the ocean’s depths to illustrate the unimaginable but wonderful feelings when we start reflecting deeply inwards. I realised I haven’t delved further into my innermost feelings when I couldn’t see a thing. Gratitude to Teacher for encouraging me to keep looking inwards for the hidden treasures beneath the deepest oceans.
