Will I be able to be kind when I’m being hurt? Is seeking revenge, creating non virtuous karma my only option when my heart has been hurt?

Or do I have another way? I can still be kind, my heart can still be free. If I lose the ability to soar high after being hurt, then I can only lay helplessly on the floor and create non virtuous karma, this is very suffering.
