If you are thus seduced by the hope that this body and life will last for a long time, you will create strong attachment to goods, services, and the like.

Because we are blinded and misguided by (the idea of) permanence, in this contrary state, thus we feel that, “Eh, I want to live on forever!” Therefore, we naturally want to protect it, be deceived by it, and so we want to protect it. What do we need in order to protect it? Fame, respect and greed! Greed arises, why? This is the reason. When you know that you will die today, what else is there to crave after? [This greed] Will not arise. In the event that the thing which you want is being obstructed by others, or you suspect that others are causing obstruction, your hostility will rise strongly. Why is there hostility? Because others are causing you harm! Harm what? Resulting in you not being able to achieve your benefits. There is this close knitted relationship between greed and hostility. And if you are not aware of this thing that is obviously harmful, what is this? Ignorance! So, greed, hostility and ignorance are all derived from here.

念死无常 : 遂于利养恭敬等上,起猛利贪

如是由希身命久住所欺诳故,遂于利养恭敬等上,起猛利贪。于此障碍,或疑作碍,起猛利嗔,于彼过患蒙昧愚痴。

因为为这个常所覆盖,在这种颠倒当中,所以你自己觉得:欸,永远要生活下去啊!所以自然而然对于这个东西就保护,为它所欺诳,所以要保护它。保护它为了这个,需要什么啊?利养、恭敬,贪着难舍啊!这个贪心之所以生起,为什么?就是这个。当你想到今天就要死了,你还有什么好贪的?生不起来。万一你要的东西被人家障碍住了,或者你怀疑人家障碍了,你起猛利嗔心。这个嗔心是为什么?人家伤害你嘛!伤害你什么?使你得不到你的利养,这个贪、嗔有它这样的密切的关系。而对这个明明有大害处的事情你不认识的话,这个是什么?痴嘛!所以这个贪嗔痴都从这里来的。
