the need to practice in this lifetime, because if you do not practice, it will be very difficult to obtain leisure and opportunity again for many lifetimes; and

Immediately what follows is that you must practice in this lifetime. Why? It has been said earlier, it has been said earlier, that you must have had a cause in the past to experience such effect now. If you don’t cultivate, don’t plant the karmic cause now, what then can you depend on for your future? If we don’t cultivate virtuous karma in this life, what would we create? Negative karma. If we create nonvirtuous karma, then of course we would experience negative effect. Could you cultivate then? Therefore, now we always say, ah-ya, just wait and take it slowly, take it slowly. That’s impossible; you cannot drag it till the next lifetime. Well, then I said it is not appropriate to wait until the next lifetime, but how about wait until tomorrow and the following day? No. Therefore, we come to point four:

the need to practice right now, because there is no certainty when you will die.

To cultivate, you must do it today. How would you know you have a tomorrow?

暇满 : 次多生中,暇满之身极难得

此复必须现世修者,现世不修,次多生中,暇满之身极难得故。

紧跟着,要现世就要修,为什么?那前面说过了,前面说过了,你前面有这个因才感得现在这个果,现在你不修,没有种这个业因,请问你将来凭什么?我们这一生不修善业的时候,造了什么?恶业,造了恶业当然感恶果,你还能修吗?所以现在我们总说:哎呀,等到慢慢地、慢慢地,绝不可能,不能拖到下一生。那么我说下一生是不适宜,摆在明天、摆在后天怎么样啊?不,所以第四点:

须于现在而修行者,谓何日死无决定故。

要修行,今天马上要修,你怎么晓得你能够保证有明天?
