So what is it [great compassion]? It is seeing all living beings immersed in the cycle of suffering. You cannot bear it, as though you were their loving mother. Just like a wealthy family, everything is perfectly fulfilled, their only child who is very smart, good looking, and obedient. However, this only child is ill and dying before their eyes. At that time, how would his mother feel? This is the mentality of great compassion and love; to want to remove the child’s suffering. And when the illness is cured, the mother wants to provide him with all happiness. This is the mind of great compassion and love.

所以大悲的话是什么呢？就是看见一切众生流落在生死痛苦当中，你无法忍受，就像那母亲一样。就像一个有钱的大家，家里样样圆满，却是一个独生子，又聪明、长得又漂亮、又听话。结果这个独生子却生了一场病，眼看着要死了，那个时候那个母亲的心情是什么？这个大慈悲心的心情就是这个，要拔掉他苦；然后好的时候呢，那母亲的心情，一切的快乐要给他，这个就是大慈悲的心。
