业果 : 学人家还是学佛

常常有人说：「你看人家怎么做的。」人家怎么做的是没有错，你现在请问你学人家还是学佛？学佛，那人家怎么样做不管他，佛告诉我们怎么做，这个才是我们应该做的事情，这个概念很重要！在我们人家倒不一定说人家啦，有的时候说某一个法师、某一个道场。那个时候你要衡量衡量：喔！这个法师是一个大菩萨再来，他自己在这个地方，为了救度众生这样去做，我自己衡量衡量行不行？不一定行。所以有一个大祖师，他在那儿认真修行的时候，他非常艰苦，人家就说：「欸，我现在看见那种很多大法师们修的时候，都不像你这样的那么苦啊，你为什么要这样的苦法？」那个大祖师怎么讲啊？「人家是狮子，我是兔子啊！那狮子走的路子，跳的地方，那个兔子不能跟着牠走。」

【The Varieties of Karma】- To learn from others or from the Buddha

Often, people will say, "Look at how others are doing."  It is true others are doing right, but may I ask, are you trying to learn from others or are you trying to learn from the Buddha?  If you wish to learn from the Buddha, then it does not matter what other people are doing.  With what the Buddha tells us, that is what we should be doing.  This concept is very important!  When others, it may not just be others but sometimes, he could be a certain Venerable, or another temple.  That is when you need to assess it yourself, "Oh!  Venerable is a great Bodhisattva who has come again.  He is doing this for the sake of helping sentient beings. Can I assess this on my own?”  We may not be able to do that.  That is why there was a great master who was diligently cultivating before, and it was arduous and tough.  Others would say, "Eh, I have seen many past masters who cultivated before, they did not seem to suffer as much as you.   Why do you have to practice with so much suffering?"  What did the great past master say?  "They are lions.  I am only a rabbit!  The path which the lion walks and leaps, is not for the rabbit to follow."
