【等起者，谓乐杀害，】

「等起者」就是说，那么由于这个烦恼，烦恼相应的这种行为，就是说不管是什么，你自然而然对于这个杀生很欢喜。有很多人哪，欸！他欢喜了，尤其是小孩子，他看见这小动物，他又跑得去要弄牠，把牠弄死。就是你问他心里面为什么，他也说不上为什么耶！的的确确你问他现在的心理，他也并没有贪什么，也并没有对牠嗔什么，也没痴什么，这种心情什么？叫烦恼的等起。就是说由于这个烦恼的心，他现在心里面并没有直接的这个烦恼的行相，确实由这个而来的，所以这个叫「等起」。

【Karma】-  Motivation of killing

【Motivation is the desire to kill.】

“The motivation” 「等起者」 is such that due to affliction, there is  action concordant to the affliction. In other words, it does not matter what it is, you just naturally enjoy killing very much. There are many people, eh, they are happy about it, in particular for little children. When they see little animals/insects, they will want to play with them and kill them. When you ask him, why he did that? He cannot tell you why! Indeed, if you ask him what is currently in his mind - there is no attachment, nor is there hostility towards it, or ignorance. What kind of mentality is this? It is called a motivation [concordant] to the afflictions, and [he kills] due to this mind of afflictions.  Currently inside him, he does not directly have the subjective aspects [or mental behaviour] of afflictions at all, however, it [i.e. the desire to kill] truly comes from this. Thus, this is called “motivation”.
