【Taking refuge】– Am I the fool or the wise?
What is in our mind now? We are thinking of those things in the mundane world. Ah, what is that? Because your mind thinks of that, your brain follows it at all times and will be turned by your afflictions, turned by your afflictions. You may be thinking of food, things to play, money, or whatever. And then, your mind keeps pursuing [those things]. Now if you think of the Buddha, your mind will pursue him too. When you think of the things in the mundane world, you give rise to afflictions and wander in the cyclic existence. When you think of the perfect qualities of the Buddha, you increase uncontaminated karma. You’ll not have afflictions and at present, you will feel at ease and content. Then because of your such contemplation, the uncontaminated karma you accrue will surely allow you to escape [cyclic existence] in the future. Ah! The difference between these two, they are indeed heaven and earth apart.
