Then, now we say, after much effort we still cannot seem to get it right. What should we do then? Eh! He tells you that the reason is because you do not have sufficient cooperative conditions. There are two types of cooperative conditions. If obstacles have not been cleared, then you need to confess. If the collections, the favorable conditions, have not been accumulated, then you need to put in effort to do so. In situations like this, the text tells us to practice the seven branches of worship to purify and mend our mind, to purify and mend. This is the Ten Great Prayers. Now let us look at the text, Page 42 Line 4, (English text, page 94 LL8)
【With respect to the seven branches of worship, the first, the branch of obeisance, includes the combination of physical, verbal, and mental obeisance. It is expressed in the first verse of the Prayer of Samantabhadra 】
The first branch is obeisance. Actually the branch of obeisance comprises the first and second branch of the Ten Great Prayers. In the seven branches, obeisance is further divided into a combination of physical, verbal and mental obeisance and a specific obeisance of each of them. The combination obeisance does all three together whereas the specific obeisance does physical, verbal and mental obeisance separately. The verse says the following,
"I bow down with a clear mind, body, and speech
To all lions-among-humans,155 leaving none out—
Those who traverse the three times in the worlds
Of the ten directions, however many there may be."
This is the verse.
